Sample Preparation – Cut representative tape samples free from wrinkles or deformities.

Micrometer Calibration – Use a calibrated micrometer with a flat anvil and spindle (minimum 6.35 mm diameter).

Measurement – Place the sample between the micrometer’s anvils and apply a controlled pressure (20 ± 3 kPa). 

Record multiple readings at different points.

Calculation – Average the measurements to determine the tape’s thickness, typically reported in mils (0.001 inch) 

or micrometers (µm).
