Oxygen barrier performance test of medical plastic ampoule bottles

The Paratronix Oxygen Transmission Rate Tester OTR-D3 adopts the isopiestic testing principle (also known as the coulometric testing principle). The pre-treated sample is clamped between the testing chambers, with oxygen or air flowing on one side of the film and high-purity nitrogen flowing on the other side. Oxygen molecules diffuse through the film into the high-purity nitrogen on the other side and are carried to the sensor by the flowing nitrogen. By analyzing the oxygen concentration measured by the sensor, parameters such as oxygen transmission rate can be calculated. For packaging containers, high-purity nitrogen flows inside the container, while air or high-purity oxygen surrounds the outside of the container.

The OTR-D3 oxygen transmission rate tester is a specialized instrument for testing oxygen transmission rates in films and containers. It features simple operation, high testing accuracy, and high repeatability. It is suitable for testing the oxygen transmission rates of packaging materials such as containers, plastic films, sheets, paper, paperboard, and their composites. Containers tested include bottles, bags, cans, boxes, and barrels made of materials such as plastic, rubber, paper, paper-plastic composites, glass, and metal. Examples include Coca-Cola bottles, peanut oil barrels, Tetra Pak packaging, vacuum packaging bags, metal three-piece cans, plastic cosmetics packaging, toothpaste tubes, jelly cups, yogurt cups, etc. It meets multiple national standards including GB/T 19789, ASTM D3985, ASTM F2622, ASTM F1307, ASTM F1927, ISO 15105-2, JIS K7126-B, and YBB 00082003

Test process of OTR-D3 oxygen transmission rate tester

1) Fix the pinhole in the middle of the plastic tube to the special device of the test container using quick-setting glue. After sealing, connect it to the instrument, and then seal and wrap the sample and special device with a sealed bag.

2) Set parameters such as sample name, test temperature, and test humidity.

3) Click on the "Start Test" option.

4) Activate the gas source, adjust the humidity, and regulate the flow rate of the carrier gas.

5) After the test is completed, the instrument automatically calculates and displays the test results.

The higher the barrier performance of plastic ampoules, that is, the lower the oxygen transmission rate, the longer the shelf life of the drug.
